I had recently discovered Alarm Will Sound, a 20-piece chamber orchestra, only last year. And when I had heard them perform Aphex Twin’s compositions from their album Acoustica, it got me even more hooked. Unfortunately, my experience with AWS has never reached further than my stereo or computer, but those of you in the New York area,  particularly on July 22, 2009, have the chance to attend AWS’s 5-year anniversary concert at Le Poisson Rouge where they will be performing arrangements from the electronic composers Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Mochipet. Tickets are twenty-bucks and totally worth it. Now if I can just book that plane ticket to NY for July…

Emoti-Chair translates music into tactile experiences

For the first time ever on March 5th, 2009, a rock concert will be staged just for the deaf at Clifton’s Tavern in Toronto. The technology enabling such a feat is the Emoti-Chair, a device created by Ryerson University’s Centre of Learning Technology and the Science of Music, Auditory Research and Technology Lab. This chair basically translates sound frequencies into tactile experiences, such as vibration, motion, and even blasts of air. Whooo.

Here is a video of Masmöd performing “Asphalt” from the Nueva Forma Social Club vol.1 at the Someday Lounge. The sound that night, as always with the Someday Lounge, was terrific. Props to Aleatoric for organizing the night as well as to Cloudburst, Demi & Cutter and Mike Jedlicka for bringing out the fine tunes that night.

Hello to anyone who has actually visited the site within the last 48 hours. We would like to take this time to update you with our progress regarding the completion of our new site and store. As some of you are aware, these things take more time than expected (usually), and we assure you, our site will be completed very soon (hopefully within the next 24 hours).

We hope you’ll be patient with us in our efforts to finalize and work out the remaining bugs on our site, so that you, the user, may enjoy what we have to offer, with ease.

On another note, I would like to thank everyone who came out to Pi-Rem last night to celebrate & party with us. We were all very surprised and pleased with the turnout, especially since we only had approximately 48 hours to promote the event.

We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and we hope to see you all again very soon. Also, we’ll be posting some pictures of the event later this evening. We really wanted to catalog the event, so if you were there, there’s a good chance we caught you in our cross hairs.
