Monthly podcast: Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures

Our third enhanced podcast is a nod to the new year, new artists, and innovations. This episode contains a careful blend of melancholy, delicate glitch, and danceable beats — curated by yours truly.

We also have the pleasure of welcoming two new artists to our label: Jimmy Batista, a New Yorker producing under the guise iameb 57, and Michael Louzao & Tim Williams, the PDX locals behind Hello Square. We’ve got two iameb tracks on the podcast, one being an original track from a forthcoming EP release, and the other a dope remix of Ke$ha’s Tik Tok. Hello Square makes a big debut with their electro-infused pop song, Writing on the Wall. And White Car, nearing completion of his soon-to-be released album Closing the Doors of Perception, shares a fresh track with us called Rico.

To top things off, we’ve got another awesome unreleased track by Reii, a remix of Lloyd’s Get It Shawty by Masmöd (as well as his track Asphalt from Axiom), a newly-surfaced remix of the Slants’ Kokoro by Pinscape, and finally, a remix of Graintable’s Lost Frost by Gouseion from the Run Riot crew. This third installment of Listening Pleasures is sure to get your ass in gear, so be sure to subscribe to our podcast if you haven’t already. Monthly podcast: Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures

This month marks our second enhanced podcast episode and comes just in time for winter. The theme is a bit of a throwback to ’70s bucolic downtempo meets retro science fiction, the kind of tunes you’d listen to while enjoying the great outdoors or star gazing at night. It’s also something peaceful to fall asleep to, and that’s something everyone here at Nueva Forma needs more of.

Along with the label artists, we’ve featured several tracks from the always-lovely Archaic Horizon label. There are new unreleased tracks from Masmöd, Pinscape, and White Car, and a special snack break from Domingo Hamm. You’ll know it when you hear his signature sound. Monthly podcast: Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures

We’re very excited to present you with our Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures, a monthly enhanced podcast featuring artists from our label roster as well as various guest artists.

Our first episode, mixed by the label founders, marks the sonic commencement of new additions to the Nueva Forma family, including Matthew Flook (alias: Pinscape), Charles Garcia (alias: Lapse), and Aaron Sjogren (alias: Miori). You’ll also hear several pre-released tracks from the forthcoming albums of Masmöd and White Car. Lastly, we’re featuring tracks from three guest artists that we take quite a shine to: ElectricWest from Idaho, Recue from Finland, and Reii out of Russia. In my formative high school years, my friends and I were discovering all sorts of amazing bands. My friend Stephen was hooked on The Ramones and tried to get me into them; quite unsuccessfully I might add. I just didn’t get it. There seemed to be nothing special at all about The Ramones but Stephen just couldn’t get enough. It all sounded the same to me. I told him, “Every song sounds the same to me” and he kind of paused for a bit. Then he got this look and said to me, “Yeah but it’s a great song.” Years later, after becoming a true Techno fan and DJ, I would remember Stephen’s words. Because they made total sense to me. Techno was my Ramones.

Dave & Philip of Kompakt

Speaking in Code is a documentary about the love of Techno, the people who produce it, and the people who are lost in it. The trailer is awesome and I’m really excited to see it because it seems so focused. Most documentaries on electronic music tend to focus on superstars and act as a starter kit for the uninitiated. Speaking in Code doesn’t really have that feel to me. From the press release:

“…an intimate account of people who are completely lost in music. A heartbreaking and lighthearted documentary, it’s a vérité glimpse into the world of techno.”

Features a stellar cast of producers (I’m really looking forward to the brothers Voigt footage): Modeselektor, Wighnomy Brothers, Monolake, Philip Sherburne, Ellen Allien, Tobias Thomas, Marc LeClair AKA Akufen, Wolfgang Voigt, Michael Mayer, Reinhard Voigt, Sascha Ring AKA Apparat, Sascha Funke, Mario Willms AKA Douglas Greed, Miss Kittin, Dan Paluska AKA Six Million Dollar Dan, and Mike Uzzi AKA Smartypants.
